Welcome by Jim Gamble
Chair of Virtual Global Taskforce and Chief Executive of the UK's Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre.

”We know from our experience of tackling child sex abuse that partnerships are crucial.  Not just partnerships that join law enforcement and international jurisdictions - but also alliances that link different sectors.  These partnerships need to be creative, ambitious and meaningful but also break down sectoral and national barriers.

Our first Virtual Global Taskforce conference in Belfast in 2005 was a great example of partnership with 250 participants from Government, law enforcement, industry and NGOs from across the globe coming together to discuss common concerns and explore common solutions.  And, I believe, delivered real results.  For example, looking back at some of the commitments made at our last conference, we have now launched new education and awareness programmes, are developing new training on victim identification, are building closer links with the financial sector and have delivered new international reporting mechanisms.  We will also shortly be announcing a new Virtual Global Taskforce initiative, which has been designed and built on the back of discussions and commitments in Belfast.

Our conference in Washington D.C. aims to build on this success.  Our goals are to encourage closer co-operation and collaboration across sectors and across borders, and to underline the role that the Virtual Global Taskforce can play in helping to achieve this.  I believe that this Conference will help build meaningful partnerships and I very much hope that you will be able to attend.”
